Mothers' Day '05 - Her Eyes

Her eyes are a warm chestnut brown
Their lids dark with rest unfound
Her eyes have watched me grow and change
From a toddler to an adolescent caged
Her eyes have endured my wilful ways
Determinedly refraining from turning away
Her eyes have shed countless tears
For all I've caused, the pain, the fear
Her eyes gave me hope and strength
Whenever I was discouraged and full of angst
Her eyes gave me peace and quiet
Whenever my world was full of anxiety and riot
I used to wonder why her eyes inspire me so
But they are my mother's, and now I know
